This minisymposium is to recognize the prestigious career of Professor Leszek Demkowicz on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Professor Demkowicz is the J.H. Herring Centennial Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin, and is one of the world’s leading researchers in the area of numerical wave propagation. He has pioneered work in the general areas of computational mechanics and mathematics, with a particular focus on error estimation and adaptive finite element methods, discretization techniques for Helmholtz and Maxwell equations for acoustics and electromagnetics, as well as methods for exterior problems such as infinite elements.
Wave propagation is prevalent in many science and engineering applications and presents significant challenges that still to date have been just partially addressed. The goal of this minisymposium is to bring together the state of the art in computational solution strategies for wave propagation in mechanics, acoustics, and electromagnetics, as well as, applications of existing solution methodologies to new and challenging areas in wave propagation.
